Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located which was based in Washington DC. In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News two year later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She was named Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. The reporting she did included plenty of important stories like the Iran-Contra controversy, tax and budget reforms, as well as the issue of arms control. She traveled widely along with the president Reagan to meet along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
